Olive Oil Tasting

Autumn is a very industrious season in Puglia. You can feel the activity of the Apulian people as they reap the rewards of the warm summer days. Grape harvest has just finished and olive harvest is about to begin. This week we have visited an olive oil grower and producer based in Martina Franca. L’acropoli Di Puglia is a fourth generation olive oil grower and producer fiercely proud of their traditions and the quality of their products. Vincenzo hosts the tour of the premises giving a detailed introduction to olive oil and how to use it and check its quality. After a short video you are shown to the production area where the process is explained in detail and then comes the tasting of the oils and balsamico. You learn to inhale the aroma, open your tastebuds to the complexities of the flavours inhale to experience the kick of pepper, whilst benefiting from the polyphenols and antioxidants. Although not based on the farm the production area is situated just outside the historic centre of Martina Franca so is very accessible and is the original building where Vincenzos family started making olive oil in 1889.
